The Weaving Grove

New York

2026

Conceived as a communal retreat embedded within the landscape, The Weaving Grove operates less as a discrete object and more as an extension of its surroundings—a spatial clearing shaped by structure. Its origins lie in a material investigation: beginning with the lamination and bending of thin wooden veneers, the project explored how curvature and joinery could generate form rather than simply support it. These early studies—focused on tension, overlap, and interlocking connections—evolved into a continuous system of interlaced timber arches that now define both enclosure and canopy. The use of wood remains central, not only for its warmth and tactility, but for its capacity to be shaped through bending, allowing the architecture to echo natural growth patterns. Elevated slightly above ground level, the structure minimizes its footprint while framing views of water, vegetation, and sky, dissolving boundaries between interior and exterior. Within, flexible communal spaces support gathering, rest, and reflection, fostering a slower, collective inhabitation of nature. Rather than separating occupants from the environment, the architecture choreographs a continuous dialogue with it, positioning retreat not as isolation, but as shared immersion.
